Crispy Fried Chicken Recipe

Crispy Fried Chicken Recipe:

Ingredients:

- 2-3 pounds chicken pieces (such as drumsticks, thighs, or wings)

- Salt and pepper, to taste

- 1 cup buttermilk

- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 tablespoon paprika

- 1 teaspoon garlic powder

- 1 teaspoon onion powder

- 1 teaspoon dried thyme

- 1 teaspoon dried oregano

- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your desired level of spiciness)

- Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

1. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper on both sides.

2. Pour the buttermilk into a large bowl or dish. Add the seasoned chicken pieces to the buttermilk, making sure they are well-coated. Allow the chicken to marinate in the buttermilk for at least 1 hour, or overnight in the refrigerator for best results.

3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the coating mixture.

4. Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. The oil should be about 1-2 inches deep.

5. While the oil is heating, remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk, allowing any excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each chicken piece in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the coating adheres well.

6. Once the oil reaches the proper temperature (around 350°F or 175°C), carefully place a few chicken pieces into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the chicken in batches to maintain the oil temperature and ensure even cooking.

7. Fry the chicken for about 12-15 minutes per side, or until the coating is golden brown and crispy, and the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C). Thicker pieces may require slightly longer cooking times.

8. As each batch of chicken is cooked, transfer it to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

9. Repeat the frying process with the remaining chicken pieces.

10. Allow the fried chicken to cool slightly before serving. It can be enjoyed hot, warm, or at room temperature.
